Meet your Trainer

“I'm Brenda, a specialised braider and qualified hair stylist. My approach to teaching is practical and supportive, with clear demonstrations and time to practise. I want hairdressers to understand not just how to create a style, but how to approach each client's hair with care and respect.”

What the training covers

Practical skills, with healthy hair and client comfort in mind

“Topics vary by package; see each course for what is included.”

Understanding textured hair:

Explore the characteristics that influence care and styling, including density, porosity and shrinkage. Learn to assess each client's hair rather than make assumptions based on appearance or ethnicity.

Consultation and preparation:

Build a clear consultation process, discuss the client's goals and recognise when a service should be postponed or advice sought from an appropriate professional. Learn gentle detangling and manageable sectioning.

Washing and conditioning:

Develop a structured approach to cleansing, conditioning and product choice. Practise working through sections without unnecessary pulling or friction. Included in the two-day course or the relevant team workshop.

Cornrows and braiding:

Learn clean partings, hand positioning and how to pick up hair into a cornrow. Focus on consistency and client comfort before increasing complexity or speed.

Simple natural styling:

Explore two-strand twists and introductory curl-definition techniques. Discuss how styling choices relate to the client's routine and preferences. Included in the two-day course or the relevant team workshop.

Aftercare and ongoing practice:

Learn to explain maintenance, gentle removal and when a client should raise concerns. Leave with clear next steps for developing your skills beyond the training day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to cornrow already?

No previous cornrowing experience is needed for Cornrow Foundations. The workshop starts with preparation, sectioning and hand positioning. It is designed for learners with basic hairdressing knowledge rather than complete beginners to salon work.

Will I be fully proficient after one or two days?

These are introductory and skills-development workshops. Your progress will depend on your starting point and continued practice. You should only offer services independently when you can perform them safely and consistently and have confirmed appropriate insurance cover.

Will I practise on a model?

The proposed individual courses use suitable textured training heads. Live-model practice is not included unless it is specifically agreed and confirmed before booking.

Does the training include extensions, cutting, colouring or chemical services?

No. The proposed packages focus on natural hair care, simple styling and/or cornrow foundations. Feed-in extensions, advanced braid designs, cutting, colouring and chemical services require separately specified training.

Can you train our team in our salon?

Private team training is available by arrangement, subject to location, suitable facilities and the agreed training focus. Send your postcode, number of learners and preferred topics so we can prepare a quotation.

Will I receive a certificate?

You will receive a certificate of attendance. This records your participation; it is not an NVQ, a regulated qualification or proof of independent competence. Please check any training requirements with your insurer before booking.

What should I bring?

We will confirm your preparation instructions and equipment arrangements before booking. For individual courses, the proposed fee includes use of the stated training equipment during the session, but not a take-home kit.
